It’s been awhile since I’ve updated the progress of JOHNNIE BE GOOD. That’s because there wasn’t much good news to report and I needed to get my mojo back. I even got a couple of emails asking if the project had been cancelled. JBG hit a rough stretch of road, full of potholes and speed bumps, untimely deaths, and investors who changed their minds. But that’s in the rearview mirror now and I’m back to work, ready to finish what i started.
Jon King Passes Away at 55
My friend and colleague Jon King, editor for JOHNNIE BE GOOD, died Saturday at age 55. Jon and I had worked together at KSDK-TV for 31 years and had worked on two documentaries together. He had been involved with JOHNNIE BE GOOD since we started the project in 2003.
Fifth Edit Almost Finished
The JOHNNIE BE GOOD project is entering an exciting phase. Editor Jon King and I are close to finishing the fifth edit, the rough cut that we start showing potential narrators and distribution companies that have shown an interest. The goal is to finish the current edit in January 2012.
Turned down by a legend
I now have a new definition of a bad day: when a Beatle says no to my film. People always ask how I get in touch with the music stars, actors, and director who are in JOHNNIE BE GOOD. Every celebrity interview has a unique backstory.
George Hickenlooper passes away at 47
I was saddened by the news that my executive producer George Hickenlooper died in his sleep October 30 in Denver. The last time I spoke to George, during the summer, he was so encouraging to me. He said he was impressed by my tenacity and the interviews I had obtained and he said he wanted to do whatever he could to help JBG succeed.
First Draft Script 98 percent done
Just gave my editor Jon King the last 13 pages of JOHNNIE BE GOOD…the ending to the film. Major milestone for the film. I have a couple of minor sections to produce, but in a matter of days I will have a movie…a very long rough cut.
PLEASE COME OUT AND SUPPORT THE FILM!

Fundraising Concert for the Completion of JOHNNIE BE GOOD
Before they joined Conan O’Brien’s band, guitarist Jimmy Vivino, bassist Mike Merritt, and drummer James Wormworth toured internationally and recorded with Johnnie Johnson. These world class musicians will perform at The Sheldon Concert Hall, 3648 Washington Blvd, St. Louis, for “Johnnie’s Jam: A Tribute to Johnnie Johnson,” a fundraiser for the final stages of the music documentary JOHNNIE BE GOOD.
